Objective To analyze the relationship between body mass index (BMI) and blood donation response to guide the rational blood collection, prevent and reduce the occurrence of adverse reactions of blood donation, and ensure the safety of blood donors. Methods A total of 6 577 volunteer volunteer blood donations from the same blood collection vehicle in Chengdu Blood Center from June to November in 2010 were analyzed to analyze the relationship between BMI and the incidence of blood donation. Results There was a significant difference in the incidence of blood reaction between BMI <20 and 20≤BMI after blood donation was removed (stratification, χ2MH = 12.100, P <0.01). Blood donors who adjusted their blood donation had 0.6 times more blood donors who had a combined ORMH of 0.600 and 20 ≤ BMI than those who had a BMI of <20. Conclusions BMI is related to the incidence of blood donation reaction. There is a difference in blood donation response rates among different BMI donors, and the response rate of BMI <20 is higher.
