自金灭北宋,《资治通鉴》传入金朝,出现了一些专治《通鉴》的学者,也产生了金代的《通鉴》学。金代《通鉴》学虽成果不丰,但也有其特点。从金代《通鉴》学发展的大致脉络看,它所体现的是对历史上先进的文化成果和文化政策的积极认同。汉人、女真人都有研习《通鉴》者,《通鉴》在金朝也得到了最高统治者的重视,成为更多民族共同的文化财富。从学术发展角度看,金代《通鉴》学不尚虚谈,较为务实,更易于《通鉴》的普及。
