The control of oil oxidation performance is an important performance indicator of today’s high-power railway diesel engine oil. In order to meet the design performance requirements, reliability and repeatability of the simulation test to predict the field service life of railway oil, it is a useful development tool for additive manufacturers, oil companies and railway applications. Thin film oxidation tests and aeration oxidation tests are useful for determining oxidation stability and for determining oil thickening parameters associated with field service characteristics. Oxidative stability depends on the sensitivity of each specific additive formulation and inhibitor of the base oil blended with a high viscosity index and a medium viscosity index. However, a reliable method of assessing the service life and performance of oil is still a field test without the establishment of an industry-standard reference and site correlation.
