20世纪90年代起,南京主城区东侧以大学教育和科技研发为内驱,拉动了城东新市区的规划建设。仙林片区内,大规模的高校迁入伴随着配套居住社区的建设。如火如荼的建设急速改变着该地区原有的城市边缘地貌,而新城区不同街区和地块开发的各自独行很容易导致城市片区整体肌理的破碎,路街空间几乎成了被地块建筑裁剪后的“碎料”。仙林社区综合服务中心的设计正是在这种沉重的忧患心态下开始的。
