Objective To understand the death characteristics of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases among residents in Guangdong Province and provide reference for prevention and intervention. Methods Based on the retrospective survey of the third national cause of death in Guangdong Province in 2006, including the data of the deaths of residents in 12 counties of Guangdong Province from January 1, 2004 to December 31, 2005, the “cause of death investigation Table ”and “ death inference table ”2 kinds of questionnaires to investigate. Results 38 170 cases (38 170/99 919) died of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases at the 2004-2005 survey in Guangdong Province. The death rate was 251.6 / 100 000 (38 170/15 170 945), accounting for 38.2% (38 170/99 919) of all causes of death. The standardized death rate of cerebrovascular disease was 102.1 / 100,000, and the standardized death rate of males was 132.2 / 100,000 higher than that of females (77.7 / 100000) (P <0.01). The standardized death rate in rural areas was 110.7 / (83.1 / 100,000) (P <0.01). The standardized death rate of cardiovascular disease was 88.5 / 100 000, and the male standardized mortality rate was 106.8 / 100 000 higher than that of the female population (73.4 / 100 000) (P <0.01). The standardized death rate in rural areas (89.5 / 100000) was higher than that in urban areas (87.0 / 100000) (P <0.01). The mortality of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases increased with age (P <0.01), and the mortality rate of people aged 60 and over was 926.2 / 100000. The deaths from cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases were mainly from farming, forestry, animal husbandry and fishery occupations, accounting for 69.75% (26 625/38 170). The educational level was mainly illiteracy, semi-literacy and primary school, accounting for 83.24% (31774/38170). Conclusions Cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases are the first cause of death among residents in Guangdong Province. Emphasis should be laid on strengthening health education and health promotion of cardiovascular diseases in people aged 60 and above, especially in the elderly in rural areas. At the same time, the input and construction of primary medical institutions should be increased Primary diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, reduce cardiovascular and cerebrovascular mortality.
