They can be grouped into three groups based on how well these methods are used in conventional prospecting. The utility of each method depends entirely on the information it requires, when it is spent, on costs, and on the level of operability. As current reliance on the classification of forested areas by exploration risk analysis is increasing, more techniques should be utilized to better define the timing of tectonic formation relative to oil maturation and migration.
