在给排水基本建设中,管道的投资约占60%以上。因此,探索和研制高强度、耐腐蚀、价格低的新型管道一直是摆在给排水工作者面前的一项艰巨而急迫的任务。除了灰铸铁管、钢管、水泥管和钢筋混凝土管等目前在我国经常采用的管材外,世界各国已经研制和发展了各种新型管材。其中常用的有球墨铸铁管、聚氯乙烯管、聚氯乙烯玻璃钢复合管和增强玻璃纤维管。
