Mitsubishi method of continuous copper smelting since March 1974 put into operation has made many improvements. This article mainly discusses the application of coal developed in recent two years, high-concentration oxygen-rich smelting and non-oil burning operations. The use of coal stabilizes the operation and prolongs the lining life. Industrial-scale production of highly concentrated oxygen-enriched air and non-oil-fired smelters is currently under planning and, given the metallurgical and economic point of view, it is expected that this approach will produce much better results.
