In order to deal with industrial waste this article addresses two very common and sensitive issues: inert ratio and recovery of wet-process red mud (RM) and mine tailings, and for red mud a promising process is the conversion of metals (mainly Zn , As well as Cd, Sn, Pb, Fe), and the other is to mix the red mud with granite crumbs and cullet together to make glass ceramics by melting and crystallizing. This article also discusses a new process using mine tailings to produce glass wool or glass-ceramic products that are chemically resistant.
