Ian McEwan is one of the most influential writers in the contemporary British literary world. This article reviews the study of McEwan abroad (mainly in English) in three stages, and summarizes and sorts out. The article points out that the controversy over morality and ethics issues and the penetration into the various stages of McEwan’s research have become more complicated and in-depth. From the simple exploration of the moral principle of the works, critics gradually expanded their consideration of the narrative ethics. Some scholars borrowed the critical discourse of contemporary ethics interdisciplinaryly or combined the aesthetic form of the text with ethical criticism to explore the internal and external Multiple ethical relations between characters, authors and readers. In the increasingly diversified research perspective, the research on multi-dimensional ethics and morality in his works is still the hotspot in the future by McEwan.
