From 1998 to 2006, the export share of primary products was declining in Zhejiang’s processing trade, and the share of industrial manufactured goods was increasing; the share of low value-added, low-tech products was declining, and high added value. The share of exports of high-tech products is rising. This shows that with the deepening of reform and opening up, the processing trade enterprises in Zhejiang Province have also accelerated the pace of technological innovation and industrial structure upgrading, and the international competitiveness and anti-risk capabilities of the industry are gradually improving. In the long run, this helps to achieve a dynamic upgrade of Zhejiang’s industrial comparative advantage. This article examines the changes in the export product structure of Zhejiang’s processing trade from 1998 to 2006 to explore the economic and institutional factors behind the phenomenon, in the hope of inspiring China’s processing trade in the context of the current international financial crisis.
