Since its launch in August 2001, the “China Yunnan Mountain Ecosystem Biodiversity Conservation Project (YUEP)” supported by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Community villagers are still in a state of absolute poverty at present, and they have achieved relatively good results by experimenting with helping the poor run by microcredit, which is run by the villagers themselves. By July 2004, a total of 1.04 million yuan loans were made to 1,144 poor households in 34 villages, with a success rate of 96% for loans to farmers and a 100% loan repayment schedule on schedule, resulting in low-cost operation.
