国内模铸广泛采用“721”型石墨保护渣。武钢自1979年以来,一直使用“721”改进型W—3渣浇铸普碳钢和低合金钢,而以低碳石墨为主要原料的W—3渣存在着碳含量不易控制和F~-含量高的缺点。钢研所在剖析英国FOSECO公司保护渣EP7140的基础上,研制了以电厂粉煤灰为主要原料,不含F~-的P—1新型保护渣,并于1987年9月通过了公司技术鉴定。该渣的特点是主要组成物料来源丰富,运输方便。选用青山热电厂的大量废弃物—粉煤灰和鄂东一带富产的硅灰石为基本渣料,其中CaO、SiO_2、
