近年来,国外在房屋建筑中采用短桩基础有了较大进展。对短桩基础的设计计算和施工方法都有许多改进和创造,使短桩基础逐步发展成为具有较高效能的基础结构型式。这种基础和天然地基上的一般条形基础相比,具有能够充分利用基础材料强度,从而显著节约基础材料;施工几乎不受水文地质条件和季节的限制;土方工程量少以及沉陷小而均匀等等持点。它和一般的桩基相比,由于桩的长度较短,一般为7米以内,因此能够使用比较轻型的打桩机械,能够采用比较简单桩基结构型式,施工简便,并易于控制打桩质量。随着建筑技术的不断发展,短桩基础的这些优点,将变得更加显著。
