Objective To investigate the clinical value of helper T cells (Th17) and regulatory T cells (Tregs) in peripheral blood of HIV / AIDS patients. Methods Fifty-four HIV / AIDS patients without effective antiretroviral therapy (HAART) were divided into three groups based on the baseline levels of CD4 + T cells in peripheral blood: group A CD4 + T cells ≥ 500 / μl, CD4 + T cells of 200 / μl ~ 500 cells / μl in group B and CD4 + T cells of ≤200 cells / μl in group C, the expression of Th17 and Treg cells in peripheral blood of HIV / AIDS patients and healthy controls were detected by flow cytometry . Results The frequencies of Th17 cells in AIDS patients and HIV infected patients were significantly lower than those in healthy controls (t = 3.74, t = 4.63, P <0.01). The levels of Treg cells were significantly higher than those in healthy controls (t = 6.74, = 2.13, P <0.05). The frequencies of Th17 and Treg cells in groups A, B and C were statistically significant (P <0.01). Conclusion The abnormal expression of Th17 and Treg cells in HIV / AIDS patients and the changes of the expression of Th17 and Treg cells are closely related to the progression of HIV.
