Photosystem II (PSII) is an important part of the plant photosynthetic apparatus that uses light energy to release water to release oxygen, protons and electrons. The electron flow generated by photosystem II plays a crucial role in plants. The mature D1 protein is an indispensable part of photosystem II that is produced at a higher rate than any of the other known thylakoid proteins. The D1 protein is frequently synthesized to replace the photoinduced D1 protein, which is rapidly hydrolyzed.
