Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is one of the most common chronic liver diseases in the world. Its incidence has been increasing year by year, but its pathogenesis has not been fully elucidated. Epigenetics as a more popular research in recent years, and NAFLD occurrence, development and treatment are closely linked. Studies have shown that epigenetics extensively regulate adipocyte synthesis and differentiation, fat metabolism and transport, insulin resistance, inflammatory factors and many other aspects. This article mainly elaborates the research progress on the pathogenesis of NAFLD from the three aspects of DNA methylation, histone modification and miRNAs regulation that are popular currently.
