Angus Dayton, winner of the 2015 Nobel Prize in Economics, conducted extensive and in-depth studies on development economics. His contributions to development economics are mainly concentrated in three aspects: First, the measurement of poverty, And the details of the measure of global poverty. The second is to study the mechanism of economic development, including savings and growth, price and poverty, bulk commodity prices and economic growth in developing countries. The third is about the contribution of research methods, Empirical analysis of data. Deitton used the metrology method to study the development problems from a microscopic point of view, making the study of development economics shift from the analysis based on coarse macro data to the empirical research based mainly on high quality micro data.
