土族人最初的歌谣就是赞歌,一个婴儿出生了,也许就有一首新的赞歌诞生,所以说,土族人是古老的歌谣哺育长大的。一户土族人家有新生儿出生时,家里的老人会在院中煨起桑,祷告神佛保佑母子平安。此时,新生儿的父亲上到房顶,在产房上面走来走去,脚下用力踩踏,意在为妻子生产助力,同时还要唱起迎接新生命的歌——
