玉米螟过去一直是大丰市玉米、棉花上的主要害虫,其他作物上很难发现其为害。2002年本市首次引种七彩椒,并采用大棚种植,生育期比露地青椒早30d左右。2002年6月中旬有农户反映七彩椒上虫害发生严重,后经市植保站调查确认是玉米螟第一代幼虫为害所致。调查6块田,虫株率40%～100% Corn borer has always been a major pest on maize and cotton in Dafeng City.
