The panel discussion attended by directors form large and medium sized appraisal firms was heldin September. The objectives of the panel discussion are: Publicize latest policies and new devel-opments of the profession; get informed of the evaluation on the profession’s progress and newdirections from the monitory bodies; improve the communication among government, associa-tions and firms; enhance the enforcement of relevant regulations.The panel discussion was honored by the presence of Vice Finance Minister, Mr. Zhu Zhigang, whois also the President of China Appraisal Society. First of all, Vice Minister Zhu gave a brief introduc-tion on the financial policies under current situation, featured by resources using, environmentprotection, income allocation. Secondly, Vice Minister Zhu believed that directors of appraisal firmsshould keep a close eye on economic developments and adapt the firms to market trends. ViceMinister Zhu continued on evaluating the progresses made after “the Third National Assembly ofDelegates of CAS” and affirmed measures taken by the State Equity and Corporate Finance De-partment of Ministry of Finance and CAS. Vice Minister Zhu expected large and medium sizedappraisal firms and CPVs that: Obey the law, regulations and standards; uphold integrity and pro-fessional ethics. Leaders of the firms should improve internal governance, brand awareness, training,market expansion, and practicing quality. Vice Minister Zhu concluded: Develop appraisal into aprofession that enjoys social respect and professional integrity, and match itself up with the marketeconomy.Mr. Huang Fanqi, the member of standing committee of CPC and the executive vice governor ofChongqing City, attended the panel discussion too. He elaborated on the role of appraisal in themarket economy, and the characteristics that appraisal profession differentiates itself from others.The executive vice mayor called more understanding between government and the profession.Ms. Liu Ping, the Vice President and Secretary-General of China Appraisal Society also presentedthe panel discussion. In her speech, she introduced the work of CAS and expected that the workshould be done more initiatively and efficiently. The Vice President hoped that all the firms shouldkeep studying Vice Minister’s address at the third National Assembly of Delegates and implementhis thoughts in practice. All the progresses made by the profession cannot be achieved withoutsupports from the Ministry of Finance and the leadership of the new management board.At the discussion panel, all the attendees were thrilled and encouraged by the presence and speechof the Vice Finance Minister and President of CAS. They were informed of the lively elaboration ofthe current economic situation and issues that had to be solved. After the meeting, the directorsfrom the firms were even more clear about the direction that firms was going to go and gainedmore confidence.
