Glioma is the most common brain tumor in the central nervous system. Although its therapeutic level is increasing, its therapeutic effect is still not satisfactory. Stat3, as a member of the signal transduction and activator of transcription (Stat) family, plays an important regulatory role in cell growth, survival and differentiation. This article reviews the activation of Stat3 protein and the effect of Stat3 on the proliferation, apoptosis, angiogenesis and differentiation of glioma. These studies suggest that Stat3 is expected to be a potential target for glioma therapy.
