Sandia National Laboratory is developing an advanced laser tracking system intended to track test aircraft operating at speeds above 22,000 km / h over short distances. For the past fifteen years, the lab has been tracking launchers and test aircraft with lasers. Because laser tracking systems have higher accuracy and smaller ground background interference than radar trackers. In fact, photographic techniques that used to take lengthy, one-by-one measurements of high-speed photographic film, which used to take weeks, have now been replaced by experimental data that takes only a few seconds.
