Thirteen years ago, the director of the New York State University Library, Professor Huang Zhongkai, put forward at the Nanjing National Library of Medicine Management Training Class. Due to the rapid development of science and technology in recent decades, the science and technology literature has been drastically increased. As a knowledge carrier Become the main source of information to master the medical information. Therefore, the quality of the medical library collection is no longer how much to collect books according to professional journals subscription quality and quantity to judge, this is a concept change. The library not only subscribes to a large number of periodicals, but a series of management tasks must be organized in a well-ordered and orderly manner. The process of selecting, receiving, displaying, arranging, binding, cataloging, classifying and circulating should be conducted according to a scientific management procedure. A medical information science graduate student into the library work, the face of a large number of journals how to operate, which requires the study of traditional and modern journal management techniques and methods. Therefore, medical information science teaching “medical journals work” this course is necessary. Professor Xiong Zhizhi to adapt to the teaching needs, editor of the “medical journal work” (Northeastern University Press, 1995 edition, higher medical college trial teaching material) is very necessary and timely. Compared with some published monographs and teaching materials, I think the following characteristics: (1) This book summarizes the theory, technology and practice of modern medical journal management. (2) highlights the characteristics of biomedical journals more than commonality, to adapt to the needs of medical libraries. (3) a brief description of the history of the periodical, with emphasis on publishing status and trends.
