The Supreme Court of the Philippines has unanimously decided to support most of the significant reproductive health laws that entered into force in December 2012 but have been banned because of the legality challenges that the Catholic Church and religious groups pose to the law Executive until now. It is reported that the Catholic Church has accepted the Supreme Court’s decision. The activists are happy about this, but also point out the budget must now be appropriated and actions must be taken to amend the legal and policy restrictions that contradict the new law. In addition to enabling public health centers to distribute contraceptives, the law also introduces reproductive health education to schools. There are some disappointing concessions.
