The proliferation of vehicles has taken a big headache in China’s urban traffic control department, but it has been detrimental to the world oil suppliers. Before the new energy era, the drastic growth of the Chinese automotive fuel market will see a huge source of money for them. Since China became a net oil importer from 1993, its annual import volume has now reached more than 70 million tons, accounting for one third of the total consumption. Data have shown that the future of China’s new oil demand will almost all rely on imports. The car is a big oil consumer, at present, the car consumes about 85% of China’s total annual gasoline production, diesel output of 20%. In the long run, oil shortage will restrict China’s automobile consumption and the development of automobile industry.
