The ancient city of Luang Prabang is located on the peninsula formed by the intersection of the Mekong River and the Nam Khan River surrounded by mountains. There are many beautiful legends about the history of this ancient city. According to legend, Buddha passed through a practice, he smiled and predicted there will be a beautiful and rich city. Luang Prabang used to be called Muang Sua and later renamed Xieng Thong. From the 14th to the 16th centuries, it became the capital of the Kingdom of Lancang (Vientiane Nation). Its growing wealth and influence are closely linked to its strategic position on the Silk Road. The city is still the center of Buddhist culture in the region, and its name “Luang Prabang” comes from the “Prabang” Buddha image here, which is dedicated to Khmer (now Cambodia).
