As the first black female writer in the history of the United States to win the Nobel Prize for Literature, Tony Morrison’s work has always had a constant theme, that is, the lack of love and love. Following the sistership in Sula, pure love in Songs of Solomon, and thick motherhood in Beloved, Jazz tells the story of the triangle between Joe, Violet and Doka. This article focuses on the intricate love story between the three protagonists in the context of the New York metropolitan in the 1920s and digs deeper into the historical roots and emotional motivation behind the deformity of love. The novel begins with death and ends with a freshman. It expresses the good wishes of the author for the black race to regain self-esteem and to ease past wounds with love.
