In 1970-1992, 242 cases of periampullary adenocarcinoma underwent pancreatoduodenectomy in John Hopkins Hospital. Follow-up to May 1997, all pathological specimens were reviewed and classified. The intraoperative and postoperative performance and pathological conditions of survivors > 5 years were compared with those who lived with wts.
