In the northwestern part of Yunnan Province, the Hengduan Mountains are named after the “transects” of traffic between east and west, where the richness of biodiversity is rare. Because of the special terrain, the original natural and cultural landscapes are more intact here. Together with the northeastern Inner Mongolia and southern Tibet, the area is the site of the only remaining intact forest landscape (IFL) in China. In 2003, UNESCO included the “Three Parallel Rivers” region of the Hengduan Mountains in the northwest of Yunnan into the World Natural Heritage Site. Forest Patrolling in a New Era As an important component of the “Three Parallel Rivers” World Natural Heritage, the forests in Shangri-La Pudacuo National Park belong to the protection scope of the Natural Forest Protection Project. Bitahai Lake at an altitude of 3500 meters, of which there are Quaternary glaciers left alive fossil - Bitahai heavy lipfish. Since the establishment of Pudacuo National Park, the protected area has expanded and the Bitahai Nature Reserve area has become a core area of the National Park.
