Eagleton’s “All Criticisms Are Political Criticisms” treats the correlation between literature, aesthetics and ideology as uniqueness and neglects its own distinguishing characteristics of literature, aesthetics and ideology. However, his question “Aesthetic Contradictions” reflects the complexity of his thinking and is a certain degree of revision of everything politicized. The reason is not that Eagleton paid special attention to the self-discipline of literature and aesthetics, but needed this self-discipline to resist the existing society. In the end, Eagleton handled the issue of self-discipline as a political issue and thus differed from the aesthetic theory.
