In order to meet the needs of Taiwan's economic restructuring and upgrading, the island's high-tech industries have been developed to further enhance Taiwan's overall scientific and technological level and international competitiveness. As a result, various domestic and overseas unfavorable factors have constrained the further development of the economy. Since 1980, the Taiwan authorities Adopted the “science and technology oriented” economic development strategy. The Taiwan authorities followed the example of the United States and “Silicon Valley” and formally established the Hsinchu Science Park on December 15, 1980. The planned area of the park is 2000 hectares. By the beginning of 2000, 600 hectares of land have been developed and the mature science and technology park in the Asia Pacific region has been initially established. In 1995, the proportion of Taiwan's technology-intensive industries in its manufacturing industry rose from 24% in 1986 to 37.5% and the information industry ranked third in the world.
