近年来，在人们对康复的需要和关注日益增强中，要求形成体系化的有机康复。关于这一点，已发现在神奈川县县内形成了康复治疗网络化。在该构想中要求有地区的一般医院，康复中心医院，高级专科医院等的划分，并要求具有相互关联的、有效的康复服务理想状态。当时认为几个康复专科医院和一部分医科大学附属医院具有康复的高级专科的相应机能．这个时代，处置许多急病患者的医科大学附属医院是既综合性医院，同时又是高级专科的康复机关的实例不太多，东海大学医院就是为数很少的其中一例。村上惠一先生在《医学》第１６６卷第１７期上撰文详细介绍了该院的情况。
