一伪古文《尚书》之《大禹谟》的“人心惟危,道心惟微,惟精惟一,允执厥中”四句,宋儒赞为尧舜禹的“十六字心传”,用朱熹的话说,是“上古圣神继天立极”,“传有自来”的“道统”(《中庸章句序》)。后人以为《大禹谟》晚出,“心传”、“道统”云云不过是虚浮之辞,不足为训。孔子说:“吾道一以贯之”(《论语·里仁》)。“一以贯之”就是有“统”。“道统”一词虽为韩愈受佛家佛统启发而移植过来的,但用在儒家身上也未尝不可,不可谓儒家无“一以贯之”的基本精神。这种“一以贯之”的基本精神便是儒家的“道统”,它的内涵即“允执厥中”,简言之,就是一个“中”字。

It can be said that Confucianism does not have the basic spirit of “one consistentness.” This basic principle of “one standing as one” is the Confucian “Taoism,” and its connotation is “allowing each other to accept one’s fate.” In short, it is a “middle” word.
