At the invitation of Mr. Liu Cheng-cheng, editor-in-chief of “Calligraphy of China” at the time, my first activity in the book fair was to visit Chongqing in the autumn of 1993 to observe the fourth book seminar in China. The seminar left a deep impression on me. The academic papers read out at the conference touched upon many issues concerning the history of Chinese calligraphy and the creation of calligraphy. They are novel and profound. The atmosphere of the meeting was also very active. Participants often held face-to-face debates on specific issues and the moderators prescribe the timing of the meeting strictly. No one is allowed to make any exception. Compared to some of the literary circles I participated in before, I felt that there was a more academic atmosphere in calligraphy circles at this time, and the combination of theory and creation was quite natural. literature
