The traditional method of English teaching is not suitable for the cultivation of students ’comprehensive abilities. Discourse teaching emphasizes the context and textual functions to cultivate students’ communicative competence. This essay explores the ways and means of college English discourse teaching from the perspective of functional linguistics.
