在江河底下铺设管线,一般均由潜水员在水下进行安装;管段之间的联接最常用的为哈夫接头和法兰联接;对于有特殊要求的管线如石油管线等,其管段之间的联接,通常采用焊接解决但水下电焊质量未过关,管线的焊接工作必须在水面上进行,尤其是复壁钢管(由二根同心园钢管组合而成,在环腔间灌注水泥浆或其他填料),在水下安装就更困难了。为了顺利完成这类管线的施工任务,必须寻找一种新的施工方法,其中江底拖曳法铺设过江管线效果显著。自七七年来,在镇海就采用这种施工法铺设了五条穿越甬江的石油管线。
