清末民初关于推类、辨名的言说,其中涉及自然名物及社会群己关系的探究颇众。荀子言“类”与“名”本就相关于政治及道德伦理课题,晚清民初学者如何在传统知识中,运用相关思维与观念借以融通诠释西学,这些学者所运用的荀学话语,又如何成为清末民初学者观看世界思潮的方式与途径?凡此相关问题,本文皆欲透过晚清民初学者的专著、报刊文献,以及翻译著述等材料加以爬梳厘清。就“观念”本身而言,往往源自于对于经验世界的存在作抽象的归纳,以一些“字”或“词”来表达对于繁复的现象界的统摄解释。透过这些观念字或词的厘清,可以了解一个思想家是怎样看待以及如何解释这个生活世界(life world),其对这个经验世界的意义掌握究竟为何?
