Recently, the “two hundreds” principle has been truly implemented and our country’s international status is unprecedentedly elevated. The study of the history of modern Chinese literature has become a hot topic both at home and abroad. However, there is still a gap in Shanghai about the “isolated island” era, with few people touching it. In view of this, the Institute of Literature of Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences has called for the elderly who have participated in the literary arts and publishing activities of the year to write down some of their own personal experiences and familiar deeds for future generations’ reference. This is a very significant event. They asked me to write about Mr. Geng Ji, and I think it is incumbent on them. Today’s young middle-aged readers hardly know the brilliant achievements of the Chinese literary translator, especially one of the pioneers in introducing Russian literature.
