The authors studied 151 temporal bones of 91 people over the age of 65 and older collected from House Ear Institute in Los Angeles, United States, and examined their histories and histological features. They also reviewed thousands of records of patients over the age of 65 and classified ear aging as Three categories: (1) senile deafness, is a biological ear aging, characterized by pure tone hearing curve within 2000Hz hearing threshold below 15dB and over 2000Hz is higher than 25dB, excellent speech recognition rate (92 to 100%). Cochlear histological examination showed that the sensory neurons degenerated. Authors believe that age in the auditory system to produce organic changes in biological characteristics, just as age in the body of other devices
