The authors performed 510 CT-guided percutaneous liver biopsy on 462 patients. 260 lesions were malignant (191 metastases, 69 primary); 250 were benign (49 hemangiomas, 44 abscesses, 33 focal nodular hyperplasia , 14 lesions Stenosis, 110 other lesions). Forty patients had a second biopsy and four had a third. Five cytological materials were not diagnostic (1%) in 510 biopsies. Of the 258 malignancies, 242 were diagnosed correctly, with a sensitivity of 94%. There was no significant difference between metastatic and primary tumors. Of 247 non-malignant cases, malignant lesions were specifically excluded 229 times with a specificity of 93%.
