我一贯认为科技是振兴国家的一种手段,而“诗词乃民族灵魂之一缕”。诗词能反映和焕发一个人的精神面貌,特别是在某一特定的生活状态或工作过程中。我就是在我的生活和研究工作遇到困难或获得进展时吟诗的。大家知道我是研究三峡工程水轮机的,搞了四五十年了,但做诗却是“文革”中在牛尾巴后面真正开始的。请听:牛尾吟诗事已奇,若非文革我无诗,长河神女容相识,代画双眉漫笑痴。在向阳湖上放牛时。看到牛尾部那两个涡和牛尾巴的摆动使我联想起苦苦研究的水轮机中的“双涡”。只有解散“双涡”才能使水轮机运转稳定。“文革”后我继续研究,推导了公式。1955年3月,我应机械工业部邀请去德阳参加“三峡程机组设计研讨会”,主持会议的梁维燕院士在预备会议上说:
