宁夏曾是全国甜菜的高糖区,七十年代甜菜含糖居全国的第二、三位。随着种植年限的延长,甜菜种植者只追求产量,不顾质量的倾向越来越严重。最近连续三年糖分下降。1985年甜菜含糖降到全国平均线之下,退居第八位。仅银川糖厂1985年收购的甜菜,因糖分降低就比正常年份少收入400万元。变成了亏损企业。这一问题引起了厂领导的高度重视。为了恢复和发展我区甜菜的生产,1986年,银川糖厂围绕着提高甜菜糖分采取了十项措施:
