Objective To understand the status of peripheral blood in workers exposed to benzene and provide a scientific basis for taking effective preventive measures against occupational hazards of benzene. Methods A total of 184 workers exposed to benzene in a factory were selected as the observation group, including 80 males and 104 females. The other 154 office workers who did not contact with benzene were control group, including 73 males and 81 females. The peripheral blood of these individuals was measured by XT-2000i automatic blood analyzer, and the results were statistically analyzed. Results The results of WBC, RBC and PLT in the observation group were significantly lower than those in the control group (P <0.05). The results of Hb and ANC showed no significant difference (P> 0.05). The relationship between the changes of blood and age and sex remains to be further studied . Conclusion The effect of benzene on the blood system is a chronic process. This survey provides reference data for the revision of the current occupational exposure limits of benzene in China in order to better formulate effective preventive measures and protect the health of workers.
