Its mechanism of action is to increase the activity of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol by binding to bile salts in the intestine. Although it is an effective and safe lipid-lowering drug, it is not popular with doctors and patients because it often causes constipation and is difficult to swallow.
