Background Most parents have a thermometer, but do not understand much about the quality and accuracy of the thermometer’s package insert information. Whether this information meets the latest fever management guidelines is yet to be tested. OBJECTIVE To compare the package insert information of commonly used thermometers with the guidebook of children’s fever management in the National Institute of Health Care (NICE). Designs and Locations During February-May 2013, a thermometer system was sampled from a British retailer. Methods The thermometer package and instructions for obtaining information, including basic information, thermometer types, instructions for use, reference range and fever threshold. Compare the above information with the 2013 NICE Guidelines for Childhood Fever management and parental advice. Discuss the relationship between the thermometer price and the information level. Results A total of 123 thermometers (ranging in price from £ 0.99 to £ 69.99) were included in the study, none of which indicated reference to the 2013 NICE Guidelines for Management of Childhood Fever. The recommended measured body position for most thermometers (n = 81, 65.9%) is consistent with the 2013 NICE pediatric fever management guideline, but only 17 (13.8%) thermometers set the correct threshold for fever (≥38.0 ° C) A few thermometers (n = 12, 9.8%) provided advice on fever management, and the management recommendations for the 4 thermometers instructions were not mentioned in the 2013 NICE Guidelines for Management of Childhood Fever. Thermometer prices and body temperature and instructions and 2013 NICE children fever management guidelines does not matter. Conclusion Parents and caregivers use thermometers more frequently, but they lack empirical evidence of fever detection and management and some thermometers even provide erroneous information. This has affected the dissemination and practice of the 2013 NICE Guidelines for Management of Childhood Fever, which requires the manufacturer of the thermometer to modify the packaging information according to the 2013 NICE Guidelines for Management of Childhood Fever so that the packaging information is consistent with the 2013 NICE Guidelines for Management of Childhood Fever.
