This is a commentary article of the British “Guardian” on China, and in particular Shanghai’s campaign to promote English proficiency. The article referred to these activities as English “Great Leap Forward” movements, and believed that this helped to create people who use English and Chinese in some big cities, but also pointed out that fascination with English may damage the ability to master Chinese native language. , And will widen the existing gap between the level of English teaching in urban and rural areas in China. How to narrow the differences between urban and rural areas and maintain the purity of Chinese in English learning is an unavoidable issue facing our policy makers and educators.
