This article describes the intermittent characteristics of the Nanhuizui development from the historical changes of the north bank of Hangzhou Bay and the history of the construction of the new and old seawalls in Nanhui, Shanghai. The Luchaogang shoal located at the tip of Nanhui mouth also shows the characteristics of alternating erosion and silting, and the scouring and silting process is transmitted from east to west. The direct cause of this erosion and deposition fluctuation is the deflection of the head-shaking sand, and its origin should be traced back to the change of the river’s potential at the mouth of the Yangtze River. In this paper, the two events of the Yangtze Estuary in the recent 50 years, the formation of the North Passage and Jiangnan Nanhong, elaborated on their impact on the dynamics of Luchao Harbor.
