From the beginning of China’s economic reform and opening to the outside world to 1995, the average annual growth in trade value between Hongkong and the mainland was as high as 16.2 percent. However, the growth rate fell abruptly to 6.4 percent last year. What caused such a great fall? After the return of Hongkong to China, what kind of change will the trade between Hongkong and the mainland encounter? The author has made an analysis and description, based on her wide field of experience.
