Dong Xiaowan (1624-1651) is one of the most famous embroiders of the late Ming Dynasty. The article present the butterflies embroidered by Dong collected by the Nanjing Museum. The embroidery measures 118.5cm long and 41cm wide, featuring such designs of flowers, butterflies, stones and leaves by the application of such methods as reversed stitch, ordinary stitch and overstitch, overflowing with the flavor of the Song Dynasty. The embroidered painting has a postscript written by Wu Rangzhi.
